Three Things Every Woman Over 50 Needs to Know.

Let me make this simple. If you're over 50, omega-3s are not optional. They're foundational. And most women are getting nowhere near enough.

Here's what actually matters.

Truth #1: Not All Omega-3s Do the Same Job

EPA and DHA are not interchangeable. EPA protects your heart and blood vessels and reduces inflammation. DHA builds and protects your brain and nervous system.

After menopause, estrogen drops. That means less natural protection for your heart and brain. EPA and DHA help pick up that slack.

If you're dealing with brain fog, mood changes, rising cholesterol, or joint pain, this matters.

Truth #2: Food Alone Usually Isn't Enough

Yes, fatty fish helps. No, it's rarely sufficient. You'd need to eat salmon, sardines, or mackerel almost daily to hit optimal levels. Most women don't. And plant sources like flax and chia don't convert efficiently into EPA and DHA.

That's why even people who "eat healthy" often test low on omega-3s.

Truth #3: Midlife Women Benefit the Most

Research consistently shows omega-3s help postmenopausal women with: lower triglycerides and heart risk, improved mood and depressive symptoms, better brain function during the menopausal transition, and reduced inflammation and joint discomfort.

This isn't about chasing supplements. It's about supporting a body that's changing.

Aim for 1-2 grams of EPA + DHA daily. Read labels carefully. "Fish oil" is not the same as EPA and DHA content.

Take omega-3s with food that contains fat. Absorption improves dramatically when taken with a real meal.

Use food plus supplements together. Eat fatty fish 2-3 times per week and supplement to reach optimal levels. If you're plant-based or allergic to fish, algae-based omega-3s are a solid alternative.
